NPCL TRAINING SESSION SUMMARIES

RESPONSIBLE FATHERHOOD MASTER TRAINER INSTITUTE (MTI)

This two and one half-day (2½ days) certification training session is designed to increase the capacity of individuals and agencies to become successful professionals in working with fathers as fathers, from diverse backgrounds and community settings.  MTI provides the knowledge and skills to train fathers and to effectively assist agency staff in the design and implementation of a successful responsible fatherhood program. A main focus of the MTI is the successful implementation the NPCL Father Development Curriculum.  The curriculum has the unique distinction of being the only fatherhood curriculum recommended and used in four national demonstration projects targeting fathers from diverse backgrounds.  The Fatherhood Development Curriculum is based on real experiences and challenges of fathers.  Through five (5) Modules (Personal Development; Life Skills; Responsible Fatherhood; Relationship Skills; Health and Sexuality) covered in 25 streetwise group sessions, the curriculum offers practitioners a field-tested guide to working with fathers in providing support, information and motivation in areas of personal development life skills, responsible fatherhood, relationships and health.  The curriculum also offers a theory of change methodology for training and learning, and assessment tools.

Participants in the Master Trainer receive the curriculum, pre and post assessment package, and 3 year Master Trainer certificate, MTI lapel pin, and a flash drive which includes research studies on fatherhood and PowerPoint presentations used in the MTI training session. (Cost $2000.00 per individual and $7500 for agencies).  Included in the agency cost are training fees for 3 staff persons and 1 day technical assistance)

Facilitators Certification Training: YOUNG MOTHERS AND PARENTING

This one and half-day (1 ½) facilitators certification training session is designed to increase the capacity of agencies and individuals to effectively implement training sessions and support groups for mothers. A main focus of the certification training is the successful implementation of the NPCL Young Mothers and Parenting Curriculum.

The curriculum addresses the real experiences and challenges of young mothers through 4 Modules (Personal Development; Life Skills; Responsible Parenting; Healthy Relationships) and covered in 18 streetwise sessions that provide support, information and motivation in areas of parenthood and relationships. The curriculum emphasizes the use of experiential techniques when providing training sessions with mothers.

Facilitators Certification Training: RELATIONSHIP SKILLS FOR STRONG FAMILIES

This one and half-day (1½) facilitators certification training session is designed to increase the capacity of agencies and individuals to effectively implement training sessions and support groups for couples. A main focus of the certification training is the successful implementation of the NPCL Relationship Skills for Strong Families. The curriculum addresses the real experiences and challenges of couples through 4 Modules (Dealing with Stress; Conflict Resolution and Anger Management); Relationships and Commitment; Managing Communication In Relationships) and covered in 21sessions that provide support, information and motivation in areas of couples and relationships. The curriculum emphasizes the use of experiential techniques when providing training sessions with couples.

 Facilitators Certification Training: YOUTH DEVELOPMENT-BOYHOOD TO MANHOOD RITES OF PASSAGE

This one and half-day (1½) facilitators certification training session is designed to increase the capacity of agencies and individuals to effectively implement rites of passage training sessions for 13-17 year-old boys in diverse settings. A main focus of the certification training is the successful implementation of the NPCL Boyhood to Manhood Rites of Passage Curriculum.

The curriculum addresses the transition of boys to men through 6 Rites of Passage Modules (Personal Rites; Social Rites; Educational Rites; Economic Rites; Physical/Health Rites; Cultural Rites) and covered in 18 sessions that provide support, information and motivation in Rites of Passage.

The curriculum emphasizes the use of experiential techniques when providing training sessions with couples. The training session is interactive and includes the following topics:
